42nd Annual Monterey Scottish Games & Celtic Festival

This very popular Celtic celebration brings the music, dance and athletic events of the mystical lands of Scotland and Ireland to Monterey County. Why fly to Scotland and Ireland when you can enjoy the cultural bounty of the region right here. Featuring fun activities for the whole family, the 42nd Annual Scottish Games & Celtic Festival will offer a variety of live Celtic entertainment with massed pipe bands on parade, including California pipe bands and Highland and Irish dancers. The very special entertainment at the 2009 Festival will include Irish entertainer, Ken OMalley and the Twilight Lords Band, Mollys Revenge, and fiddler John Taylor performing with special guest singer and guitarist, Ed Miller.
The Festival will feature exciting Scottish heavy athletic competition events, including the famous Caber Toss. Great entertainment will be provided by professional Celtic Bands. Exciting colorful activities will include pipe band competitions, Drum Major competitions, Highland Dancing, Irish Step Dancing, Sheepdog herding, Clan and Celtic Association Tents. The 20th annual Carmel Valley Fiesta will be held August 1-2 this year at the Community Park in Carmel Valley, sponsored by Carmel Valley Kiwanis. The event kicks off with the traditional Hoopla BBQ at Trail and Saddle Club, Friday July 31st and proceeds benefit the Scholarship Program. Saturday starts with the Valley Volunteers pancake breakfast and the 8.3 mile Mountain Run. The parade starts at 10:30 and winds through the Village ending at the Park. The Fiesta Classic Car Show returns from rave reviews. Activities in the Park include free music from top area bands, kid's games, arts and crafts, a variety of food booths and the CV Kiwanis train! Sunday begins with more pancakes, the Fiesta Dog Show, continuing music and activities and concludes with the Raffle grand prize drawing for a week excursion in Molokai. All proceeds are returned to the Community in a variety of ways through Carmel Valley Kiwanis. The New Monterey Business Association presents Movies in the Park! Bring the whole family and enjoy a cinematic evening under the stars on the second Saturday of the month at Scholze Park in New Monterey. Tonight we'll be watching Grease! All films will begin after sunset, but you are welcome to come early and bring a picnic.
All Movies in the Park will be held outdoors at Scholze Park, located at the corner of Lighthouse Ave and Dickman Ave in front of the Monterey Senior Center. Remember to dress warmly and bring blankets and/or chairs. Please do not bring pets or alcohol. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
