    While there are lots of places to visit in the world, the Monterey Peninsula is definitely a destination place one will return to time and time again. For lovers of nature, March is a perfect time to visit. Every winter and spring, the entire Gray Whale population migrates past the Monterey coastline. Without a doubt, the Monterey coastline is the best place to view these magnificent creatures. If you have never had the opportunity to delight in this event, now may just be the time. Check out the events below and plan to stay a night or two to take in a concert, dine at one of our many fine restaurants or play a round a golf. There certainly is much to choose from.

This signature Smuin work, a marvelous and colorful medley set to songs by your favorite singers, is as fresh and appealing today as it was when it debuted in 1994. Robert Sund, former San Francisco Ballet principal, has created his Carmen to the music of Miles Davis' "Sketches of Spain" - a jazzy interpretation of the classic story of romantic competition. They are hailed by critics and fans alike as the most authentic and endearing Beatles tribute in the world. Choosing songs from the pre-Sgt-Pepper era, "1964" recreates an early 60s live Beatles concert, with period instruments, clothing, hairstyles, and onstage banter.


    A Bridge to There: A Reading by George Lober

    George Lober is a former winner of the Spectrum Prize for Poetry and the Ruth Cable Memorial Prize for Poetry. His poems have appeared in numerous literary journals including Eclectic Literary Forum; Quarry West; Homestead Review; MiPoesias; Lily; Monterey Poetry Review, Sand Hill Review; and in The Anthology of Monterey Bay Poets, edited by Ryan Masters (Chatoyant, 2004). George Lober's first book of poems, Shift of Light, was published by Hummingbird Press in 2002; his new book, A Bridge to There, is scheduled for publication, also by Hummingbird, in early March 2009.     We invite you to come get "down and dirty" at the 4th annual Mud Run on the last Saturday in March. The challenging but fun course includes hills, water, obstacles, drill sargeants, and yes, plenty of mud. The Mud Run is a Big Sur Marathon event sponsored by the U.S. Army Garrison-Presidio of Monterey and California State University Monterey Bay.
